UK Antimicrobial Registry

Collecting real world antimicrobial data, improving patient outcomes

Update on UKAR progress

BSAC hosted the 3rd industry engagement meeting in April 2023 and are planning the next one for October/November 2023 where we will be able to share early data from the study. We are currently working with 3 industry partners and are in discussions with several others wishing to contribute to this exciting study.

Following a recruitment drive at the BSAC Spring conference the study team are now liaising with 28 hospitals across all 4 UK nations. In addition to the initial 4 pilot sites, two other hospitals have joined the pilot and experience of these sites in using the UKAR system plus data collected will be reviewed in September.

UKAR is part of the NIHR portfolio of supported studies and within hospitals recruited to date various staff have taken on the Principal Investigator (PI) role e.g., ID Consultants, Microbiologists, Antimicrobial Pharmacists. The NIHR Associate PI scheme is available for clinicians wishing to develop skills in leading research projects via UKAR. BSAC is actively promoting this to pharmacists and middle grade Infection trainees as an opportunity to enhance their career portfolio.
